NTPC Green Energy Partners with ENEOS to Supply Green Hydrogen and Methanol

NTPC Green Energy Ltd. (NGEL), a fully-owned subsidiary of NTPC Ltd, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ENEOS Corporation of Japan for the supply of green hydrogen and its derivatives, like green methanol, through mutual understanding and cooperation. The deal was inked at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
The MoU comes in light of the Green Hydrogen Hub which NGEL is going to develop in Pudimadaka, Andhra Pradesh, spread over an area of 1,200 acres. The envisioned hub is going to be an integrated facility for the production and export of green chemicals and will cater to Japan's demand for low-carbon energy while making India a contender in the world market for green hydrogen.
The step is indeed a big one towards NTPC’s target of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 and the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which is striving for India to be the global producer and exporter of green hydrogen. The partnership is going to bolster the trading of clean energy between both the nations and also the establishment of a seamless imports and exports route.
The Indian and Japanese energy experts opined that this partnership is not just a mere collaboration but a monumental joint venture in the area of international clean energy and thus it would pave the way for phasing out fossil fuels in India and giving the country a significant position in the global market.
